Feral Flora Deer-Resistant Plant List

Take this list with a grain of salt! The deer certainly do.

This list is based completely on Matt’s personal observations in southeast Michigan. Deer preferences seem to change geographically, so this list may not be applicable elsewhere.

Feral Flora Sidewalk Extension List

The lawn extension, or hellstrip, can be a difficult place for plants.

It’s incredibly hot and dry in midsummer, piled with snow and salt in winter, and plants must be fairly short to not impede driver’s views for safety. They are often chock full of tree roots, and walked on and driven over.

All of this limits the number of plants that will not only survive, but look good in the heat of summer! You’ll find this mix of native plants will provide blooms from spring through autumn, seeds for feeding, and look good through the heat. Open list as PDF in new tab HERE or tap on image.
